Valentine’s Day

If you’re good at romance, and you’re good at planning too, then chances are you probably already know just what you’re going to be doing for Valentine’s Day this year.

But for the rest of us here’s a little help.

I called someone at The Co-operative Travel and they suggested a range of options including European city breaks from £200 a person. Just imagine proposing in Venice? Or just holding hands if that’s all a bit forward for you. If your budget stretches a bit further then how about getting a little spicy in Marrakesh? Have an amazing rub down and massage in a Hamman before striking out to the main square where you’ll find all life, food and excitement laid on for your entertainment, then retire to your own North African bedroom.

If that sounds too much of an adventure and the bright lights are more your thing then what could beat New York – a living film set, with all the glitter, razzmatazz and fine shopping and food you could hope for.

Such talk is all very well if you can afford a spontaneous trip away, and you can both take the time off too, but if you can’t then with forethought you can still have a night to remember without leaving town. A great Valentine’s meal out will need booking in advance, but a great meal in needs less in the way of planning, even if you still need to think it all through.

For more Valentine’s day ideas for gifts and cards how about starting off by lighting the house with candles, a bottle of fizz in the fridge, and a lovely meal, either made from scratch, or prepared for you by The Co-operative? I checked out the deals and there is champagne at just £15.99 and a cava at £6.99 – that’s half priced bubbles all round! There are some scrummy Valentines chocolates for later too. Look out for a special meal deal from the 12th February – and don’t forget your card and flowers.

It has been an awful long time since the imprisoned Saint Valentine apparently fell in love with his gaoler’s daughter, leaving her a final note saying “From your Valentine”. These days you won’t get away with forgetting the 14th of February. So plan ahead a little, book the trip, the restaurant, or just know what you’ll do at home, and don’t forget those all important flowers. And the Valentines card!

Have your say
