Co-operative Prosecco Which? Best Buy

November 21, 2013 by The Co-operative Food 25290

The Co-operative Food’s Prosecco sales are bubbling over, with the Italian fizz out-selling Cava by four bottles to one.

And today (Thursday 21 November), The Co-operative’s own-brand Prosecco DOC Special Cuvée Brut has scooped a Which? magazine “best buy”, taking top marks in the consumer taste test in the December issue, and scoring 77%.  The taster comments said: “This uncomplicated and attractive Prosecco would make a lovely aperitif. It’s ‘clean’ and soft with floral and peachy perfumes and a hint of lemon peel.”

Simon Cairns, Wine Trading Manager at The Co-operative, commented: “As well as being the stand-out sparkling performer in 2013, sales of Prosecco have doubled this year at The Co-operative. This excellent performance means that our overall sparkling wine category sales are up 12% year-on-year.

“There are several reasons for this success”, Simon continues. “Competitive pricing, promotions and attractive packaging are all factors, but the most compelling factor seems to be the flavour profile of Prosecco – our customers really appreciate a softer, more approachable fizz, and Prosecco ticks all the boxes.”

For an extra incentive to buy a bottle of Prosecco for festive celebrations, the retailer’s own-brand Prosecco, which was awarded the Which? magazine accolade, is currently just £6.49 (down from £9.99) until 3 January 2014 inclusive.  This fabulous Prosecco is bright pale straw-yellow colour with a fine, clear mousse and a very delicate perlage. The nose is attractively intense, very fruity and aromatic, with hints of delicate flowers and green apples. On the palate, it is very well balanced and appealing, with the extremely delicate almond note that is typical of Glera.
