The Experts’ Guide to Christmas TippleDecember 3, 2015 by The Co-operative Food
Discover a fabulous range of wines at your local Co-op this Christmas and New Year. Whether it’s to bring some sparkle to your festivities or breathe a new lease of life into classic Christmas dishes – our wine experts have put together a Christmas tipple guide to help you choose the perfect wine to complement your festive fare!
If you’re serving up fish or salmon, we recommend opting for a glass of fresh white wine such as our Truly Irresistible Explorer’s Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc – a light-bodied dry white, perfect with all seafood dishes.
While most of us usually choose a white wine to accompany our Christmas turkey roast, our experts suggest wowing your guests with a surprise red. We recommend The Co-operative Truly Irresistible Pinot Noir. A glass of this Chilean medium-bodied red is ideally served slightly chilled! But if you don’t fancy sampling some red with your turkey, for a great all-rounder white wine try a glass of the crisp and fresh Co-operative Truly Irresistible Chablis. It goes great with fish starters too.
For a big bold red, we recommend Les Quatre Seigneurs Châteauneuf-du-Pape. It’s the perfect accompaniment to a delicious beef main course.
Cheese and wine is a classic Christmas combination! If you’re serving up a cheeseboard this festive season, we recommended pairing it with something sweet – try a glass of The Co-operative Late Bottled Vintage Port. It goes great with a variety of cheeses and works perfect with dessert too. If you’ve got a bit of a sweet tooth, we recommend a glass of Chateau Roumieu Sauternes 2011. It’s a great dessert wine!
